Sorry: Anne of Green Gables Special Edition

I love Anne of Green Gables. Anne Shirley & Gilbert Blythe are absolutely my favorite fictional couple. I grew up watching the first two Anne films and L.M. Maud Montgomery's characters quickly became part of my childhood.

If you've seen the movies, you know that when Gilbert pronounces "sorry," it sounds like "sore-y." This probably doesn't strike you as odd if you are from Prince Edward Island, but my friends and I always thought it was funny. And adorable.

Earlier this year it struck me that it would be incredible/bizarre to combine Anne of Green Gables with the board game Sorry. I have a friend who loves Green Gables as much as I do, and I knew that she would get the joke, so I gave her the game for Christmas.

I painted 16 Anne of Green Gables themed wooden peg game pieces and substituted my wooden pieces for the plastic ones that come with the traditional Sorry game. To make it official, I wrote "Anne of Green Gables Special Edition" in Sharpie on the front of the box.

The result:
Matthew, Gilbert, Anne, Marilla

All sixteen game pieces

Obviously, Anne always gets to start on the Green space

"She could talk the hind leg of a mule. Hmm, wouldn't that be a change around here."
- Marilla

"I'm awfully sore-y, Anne. Don't be mad at me for keeps." - Gilbert
"There would never be anyone for me but you." - Gilbert
